Welcome to the NHC Tax Department
The Tax Department is responsible for obtaining, developing, analyzing, and maintaining records necessary for the appraisal, assessment, billing, collection, and listing of taxes associated with real and personal property within the jurisdiction of the county and municipalities, according to the state of North Carolina General Statutes. The Tax Department is required to provide information, research, and maintain records for the NC Department of Revenue, and provide statistical information for General Assembly analysts. The department also serves as the staff liaison to the Board of Equalization and Review.
In-Person Payments
If you will be visiting the Government Center Office at 230 Government Center Drive, payments can be placed in one of three tax drop box locations. One is inside the building in front of the Tax Office, the other two are located at the West entrance and the South entrance to the building (both are outside, before coming in the doors). All of the drop boxes are collected twice per workday. The first is by 8:30 am and then again at 5:00 pm
Payment Options
The Tax Office is also now accepting credit cards, debit cards, and E-check payments. They can be made in person, online at OSG Billing and Payment Solutions, or by calling 877-295-3383. When paying online, there is a small service fee. The tax payer will need the bill year, bill type, and bill number to ensure the payment it credited properly.
