Every employee of New Hanover County is required to work during emergency and disaster situations, such as, but not limited to, hurricanes. The emergency work assignments during these situations may be outside of the scope of regular duties and may require working any day of the week during various hours (day or night) for unspecified lengths of time.

Internships

New Hanover County Parks and Gardens is continuously seeking part- and full-time interns to assist in various roles relating to the day-to-day operations and success of the county parks department while learning skills related to parks, programming, and management. Interns work within many different areas of the department including administration, operations, programming, special events, marketing, and customer service. Interns may also work in different locations including the parks and gardens office, county parks and gardens facilities including Airlie Gardens and Echo Farms Park, and off-site special event locations. Responsibilities vary and may include customer service, operating recreation software, maintaining facilities, organizing and overseeing special events, representing the department at community outreach events and festivals, volunteer coordination, program development, and implementation.
