The New Hanover County Arboretum’s 25th Annual Art in the Arboretum Art Show and Sale will be held virtually and extend its usual three-day event to six weeks. Starting November 6 through December 17, patrons can visit ArtInTheArboretum.com, to view and purchase artwork, jewelry, wood crafts, garden art sculpture, and more from over 100 artists.
“For nearly 25 years, local and regional artists have annually circled the November date of Art in the Arboretum, and thankfully, our planning committee of dedicated staff and volunteers has found a way for artists and art lovers alike to continue to participate in one of the largest annual art shows in the state, without the risk of COVID-19,” said New Hanover County Arboretum and Cooperative Extension Director Lloyd Singleton. “In this virtual art show, buyers will get to browse at their extended leisure, and sellers will be able to replace sold art with fresh pieces for patrons to peruse. And the opportunity to support the Arboretum continues!”
An exciting feature of the sale is a “virtual wall” that enables visitors to the website to view a piece of art as it would look in a home or office. Buyers can also upload photos of their own living spaces to make the view even more realistic.
Videos showing various artists working in their studios will also be available on the website.
The online store is easy to use. Buyers can select the art they want, add it to a cart, and then make the payment online via credit card or PayPal. Buyers will get an email receipt and artists will contact the buyers within 24 hours to make arrangements for local pickup or delivery.
Art in the Arboretum is sponsored by the Wilmington Art Association and the Friends of the Arboretum. Artists will earn 70 percent of sales, and the remaining portion of the proceeds will go to the Arboretum. Annually, this fundraiser brings in about $25,000 to support the Arboretum’s programs and facilities.
