Jingle Bell Special for Art in the Arboretum

New Hanover County – Art in the Arboretum, a virtual art show and sale showcasing local artists, ends Friday, December 18. These deals won’t last much longer.

The Black Friday through Cyber Monday discount offered by this year’s Art in the Arboretum was such a success that the sponsoring organizations – Friends of the Arboretum, N.C. Cooperative Extension and the Wilmington Art Association — are doing it again in the Art Show and Sale’s final week.

Anyone buying art during Art in the Arboretum’s final days will be entered into a Jingle Bell Special drawing and eligible to be one of five winners of a 20 percent rebate on all purchases made during that time.

Those who bought art from Black Friday through Cyber Monday were entered into a similar drawing, but with just one winner receiving a 20 percent discount on purchases made during those four days.

Melissa Brinkley, who bought a 16 X 20 framed Lewi Kurtzman original acrylic painting titled “Italian Clothesline” over the long weekend of the promotion, was the lucky winner.

All artists take home 70 percent of the purchase price for their entries, with the remainder going to support the Arboretum and arts in the Cape Fear region more generally. The Jingle Bell discount is being funded by the sale sponsors.

Art in the Arboretum, traditionally one of North Carolina’s largest outdoor art shows and sale, opened in early November, but in COVID-accommodating 2020, the sale was put online rather than held in-person, and was extended for much longer than its usual three days. This year, the festivities will cover six weeks, lasting until Dec. 18.

Typically, between $30,000 and $40,000-worth of art changes hands during the annual art sale, and the first online venture is on track to reach more than half that amount. All participating have been happy that the sale has taken place and provided some normalcy to current life in southeastern North Carolina.

Visit during the last week and take advantage of the Jingle Bell Special. Shoppers will find a festive and easy-to-use online store. The 2-D and 3-D artwork from more than 100 artists is divided into 20 different categories. If there are still unanswered questions on your Christmas shopping list, the answer is likely here.

“Congratulations to Ms. Brinkley and all those who supported this year’s online venture,” said Art in the Arboretum Planning Committee Chair, John Ranalli. “Thanks for your support of the arts in the Cape Fear region and for the support of the gardens.”
